COVID-19 cases across Wisconsin are back on the rise.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,367 new daily cases on Tuesday, along with 67 hospitalizations and 17 new deaths.
Currently, there are 646 people hospitalized by the virus, which is at an all-time high.
“I don’t want people to overreact, but we really are at a very bad place right now,” said Medical College of Wisconsin President Dr. John Raymond on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News. “Especially in the northern counties of the state, the intensive care units are about 80 to 85-percent capacity.”
As of Tuesday, the state had 2,062 hospital beds available.
There are 20,252 active cases statewide, and so far 98,385 people have recovered from the virus. Deaths total 1,300 in the state.
“We are nine months into this pandemic, and right now it’s not slowing down, it’s picking up speed,” said Governor Tony Evers Tuesday during a media briefing.
Dr. Raymond believes the rapid rise is because of community spread.
“Not in the workplace. Not necessarily in colleges, but at family events, neighborhood parties and socialization outside of the workplace,” Dr. Raymond said. “This is really happening all over the state.”
