It was a welcome return for communities across the state Friday night.
For the first time in 2020, high school football teams took to the field.
“The first football game, that’s usually a relatively big community event,” said Arrowhead High School Activities Director Ryan Mangan.
But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, things are scaled back this year. In an attempt to limit crowds, most schools are only allowing two attendance passes per student.
“We’re trying to encourage people to wear masks whenever possible,” Mangan said. “Social distancing is still there.”
“We have little sections set up about six-feet apart,” said Wauwatosa West Athletic Director Jeff Gabrielsen. “We’re not having concessions. We’re separating home [fans] and visitors [who] never come across each other.”
All things considered, getting the games started again is a significant step.
“It’s day-to-day…We got one notch there.” Mangan said of getting the season started.
