One day after being awarded to the Packers off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks, 2016 all-pro defensive tackle, Damon “Snacks” Harrison completed his first practice as a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur could use Harrison’s run-stuffing ability as early as Sunday’s regular season finale against the Chicago Bears.
“Hopefully he can get acclimated pretty quickly,” LaFleur told reporters Thursday afternoon. “He’s a really good run defender and he has been for a really long time. Just excited to get him in the building.”
The 32-year old Harrison was a healthy scratch in Seattle’s week-16 match-up against the Los Angeles Rams. Unhappy with the decision, Harrison requested – and was granted – his release earlier this week.
Seattle and Green Bay both showed interested in Harrison’s services in October.
“He’s got a lot of experience,” LaFleur continued. “I think he can give us a lot in terms of playing the nose.”
Harrison’s arrival is timely considering fellow defensive tackle Kingsley Keke remains in the concussion protocol.
Harrison’s NFL career began as an undrafted free agent out of William Penn in 2012. His first team was the New York Jets. The Defensive Coordinator of the Jets at the time was current Packers Defensive Coordinator, Mike Pettine.
