After two major signings at edge rusher on Tuesday morning, the Packers are deciding to let go one of their veterans at the position: Nick Perry.
The move comes on the same day as the signings of much younger and effective linebackers Za’Darius Smith from Baltimore and Preston Smith from Washington.
“We want to thank Nick for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers and the community over the last seven seasons,” Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said in a team statement.
“He did a tremendous job on the field, was a great teammate and a true professional. We wish Nick, his wife, Audrianna, and their family all the best.”
Perry would have earned a $4.8 million roster bonus had he stayed, according to Owczarski.
He missed the last seven games of the 2018 season after injuring his knee, and had just 1.5 sacks in 2018.
The move gives the Packers a $3.6 million salary cap gain to use toward the signings of Preston and Za’Darius Smith and the addition of safety Adrian Amos and offensive lineman Billy Turner.
