“If we had a magic wand, we’d start in January.”
That’s what Bucks President Peter Feigin told WTMJ’s Greg Matzek about the start of the 2021 NBA season in an exclusive interview as a part of WTMJ 2021.
A magic wand would help Feigin and the Bucks at this point in time. So would a crystal ball.
The Bucks’ President says it’s incredibly difficult to plan for basketball, concerts at Fiserv Forum, or other events without knowing what the future of the COVID-19 pandemic will hold.
Feigin explains that a start in January, or even February, would enable the NBA to complete a full 82-game season, while still holding all of its “tent-pole events,” like the All-Star Game.
Then, there’s the question of attendance.
“For us, attendance is a very big deal. Attendance is 45% of revenue for our NBA team, so to play with no attendance would be a really challenging prospect for us.”
The city of Milwaukee currently limits large gatherings to 250, so changes will need to occur in order for fans to return to the stands.
As for the NBA’s Bubble in Orlando, Feigin is extremely proud of the way that the league was able to navigate through its restart with zero positive tests.
“It really was a miracle.”
