Life as a professional firefighter and paramedic can be challenging enough without the added risk of the threat of contracting the COVID-19 virus.
It’s a reality that nearly all first responders face now when they go out on every call they make.
City of Racine firefighter Rob Sackett, who recently celebrated both five years on the job in Racine, and the recent birth of his son Wyatt, not only understands the risk, but faces it head on.
Hero is not a word he’s necessarily comfortable with.
“I think there are bigger heroes than me.. heroes come in all shapes and sizes,” he said.
On top of his incredible commitment to his profession, Rob also has an amazing personal story.
His mother Linda, who was facing severe, life-threatening kidney failure, needed a kidney transplant. Rob and his brother both turned out to be matches, and Rob was chosen to donate a kidney to his Mom.
“Rob means the absolute world to me, and I”m very lucky that he’s my son,” Linda said as she shared her story about Rob’s kidney donation.
For demonstrating what a hero really is, both on the job and away from the fire station, Rob Sackett is one of our Salute to Service honorees for 2020.
