The city of Milwaukee will not impose a curfew Tuesday, according to Mayor Tom Barrett.
“Last night we saw a notable reduction in illegal activity associated with public protests. I am optimistic that reduction will continue this evening,” said the Mayor in a statement.
“At this time, I am not ordering a curfew for tonight, Tuesday, June 2. However, if conditions warrant, I will, on short notice, institute a citywide curfew.”
Late night protests Monday extended from Milwaukee into Shorewood and Whitefish Bay. However, they were relatively peaceful.
Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales cited incidents of “an individual from the crowd” shooting a dog on Milwaukee’s east side, and of a car driven by a protester striking a vehicle and flipping.
“I want to thank all the public safety officials who have been working tirelessly to protect our city,” he said.
“I have respect for the thousands of Milwaukee residents who have peacefully demonstrated in recent days, and I hope that all future protests are lawful.
